Can my husband sue someone for giving false information to the police that led to his arrest?

We also want to sue the news station and police department. My husband's name was also slandered all over every news channel and newspapers in my state saying that I witnessed a and ault when he wasn't even there. He got charged with giving false information to the police, but that is not true either. His reputation is ruined and it is going to be hard for him to find a job now. There is a lot more to this story, but the fact is, he was not there when any actions took place. My husband's name and face should not have been slandered at all. The news station or papers didn't even change their story when he was released from jail with a ticket for giving false information to the police. Any help is appreciated.
