My dad is always in a bad mood even though nothing has happened to him. What is the answer?

For instance yesterday I had the news on but had left the tv on for my parents. My dad growled 'Can't we have the News channel on?' I said 'Have what you like on'. Dad is always losing his temper with me and always has and now doesn't speak to me presumably because I don't like being locked up.
