If I want to plan my own baby shower can I ask people to help financially instead of throwing me one?

My boyfriend and I are going to plan our own coed baby shower for multiple reasons. Is it rude to tell people who offer to help that we would accept monetary help? Usually the person that throws the baby shower pays for it but we're throwing it ourselves and we don't really have extra money since we have a baby on the way (obviously).
