Clutch pedal linkage?

i have an 1985 camaro and a couple of weeks ago the clutch pedal was working fine. i went to press it down and i heard a snap and it just went straight to the floor. there was no tention at all and it was just swinging back and forth lke nothing was holding it up. I got under the dash and i saw where the rode to the clutch had come off of the stud on the clutch pedal. i went all around looking for the little "carrier bearing" a little plastic ring with 3clips on the end. I found one and went to put it on (through the rode and then onto the stud) but when i went to see if it worked or noth the damn thing just snapped right off like it was nothing. im guessing it was the wrong one...ill probably have to call a GM dealer and get an exact. once i get an offical piece i should be ok...any1 mind telling me the exact procedure for the installation of that piece in case im screwing up
